Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Host-Pathogen Interactions. A postdoctoral research associate position is open immediately to study host innate defense mechanisms targeting Staphylococcus aureus virulence. The candidate will combine lipoprotein biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, and microbiological approaches to study mechanisms of host lipoprotein mediated control of bacterial quorum-sensing dependent virulence (Peterson, et al, 2008, Cell Host and Microbe. 4: 555-566). This work is currently supported by an R01 from NIAID/NIH. Responsibilities include independent research, communication of research results, and participation in local journal clubs and Works-in-Progress presentations.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related field with a record of peer-reviewed publications. The ideal applicant should have extensive experience in confocal microscopy and mouse models of disease. Candidates with experience in protein purification (FPLC) and in lipoprotein/lipids research will be given preference. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with demonstrated ability to carry out independent research. Applicant must be eligible for clearance/credentialing at nearby VA campus due to ongoing collaborations.

The Hall laboratory is located in the new Multidisciplinary Research Facility on the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center campus. The position includes teaching, mentoring and leadership opportunities, as well as opportunities for training in whole animal imaging.
