Senior Scientist and Program Leader
University of Illinois Cancer Center and College of Pharmacy

The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy and the University of Illinois Cancer Center invite applications for a senior scientist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor beginning summer – fall 2012.

We seek an outstanding candidate who is a leader in the field of translational cancer pharmacology emphasizing drug or drug target discovery. The individual will assume a leadership role in the Cancer Center as a program director (Cancer Targets, Therapeutics and Imaging Program; formerly Experimental Therapeutics) and hold a faculty appointment in the College of Pharmacy. In addition, the candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills, and is expected to coordinate a multi-disciplinary research program.

Founded in 1859, the UIC College of Pharmacy is ranked 3rd in total research expenditures nationally with a number of areas of excellence including cancer pharmacology. The University of Illinois Cancer Center is the only cancer center in the State of Illinois with links to six health sciences colleges--medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, allied health sciences and public health-as well as colleges of engineering and liberal arts and sciences. The University of Illinois Cancer Center also comprises regional campuses in Rockford and Peoria and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Research in the University of Illinois Cancer Center is organized into four broad thematic programs that are mechanism-based and focused on translating discoveries that can lead to improvements in cancer treatment, diagnosis and prevention. They are tightly linked to clinical research and treatment working groups in areas such as colon cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and liver cancer. There are over 170 researchers in the Cancer Center and total cancer-related research funding exceeds $42 million annually.

An earned MD, PhD, and/or PharmD are required. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. The position will remain open until filled.
