Two Canada Research Chairs (Tier II) in Ocean Research
The Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada ( http://www.oceanography.dal.ca) is respected internationally for its strong interdisciplinary training and research in ocean science. Together with partners from government research, academia and industry, the Department now plays a leading role within the newly formed Halifax Marine Research Institute which seeks to maximize potential of the region's vibrant and growing ocean research and technology sector. Since 2011, the Department has hosted the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Science and Technology which is developing new approaches to observe the changing ocean and study ocean processes. In association with this CERC OCEAN group, Dalhousie University is seeking motivated individuals to fill two new ocean research chairs:
Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Ocean Measurement Systems
Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the field of Ocean Measurement Systems.
The position is associated with Dalhousie's Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Science and Technology and will be held in the Department of Oceanography of the Faculty of Science with potential for joint appointment with the Faculty of Engineering. The candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active research program addressing new, practical approaches to at-sea measurement of physical, chemical and/or biological properties or processes. Potential areas of research include development and application of robotics, novel platforms, power and communication systems, sensors and/or instruments.
The candidate should have a PhD degree, postdoctoral and/or industrial research experience and a research track record that is exceptional for his/her career stage. It is anticipated that the appointment will be tenure-stream and made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in marine science and/or engineering, and to develop a vigorous and creative research program with external funding. The candidate will have opportunities to interact with a wide range of researchers at the University, nearby government laboratories and a broad range of companies working in the ocean technology sector.

Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Ocean Chemistry
Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the field of Ocean Chemistry. The position will be held in the Department of Oceanography and is associated with Dalhousie's Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Science and Technology. The department is particularly interested in applicants with interdisciplinary expertise in the chemistry of trace metals and/or marine photochemistry but will consider all qualified applicants.
The candidate should have a PhD degree, postdoctoral experience and a research track record that is exceptional for his/her career stage. It is anticipated that the appointment will be tenure stream and made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in marine science and/or environmental chemistry and to develop a vigorous and creative research program with external funding. Applications should be submitted before March 16, 2012 and consist of a curriculum vitae, list of publications, a summary of research interests, a research proposal (no more than 3 pages), a statement of teaching interests and experience, and names and contact information of at least three referees.
