The Australian Institute of Marine Science is the leading national organisation researching tropical marine ecosystems. The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia, and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support. Facilities are being enhanced with $55M of capital funds from the Australian Government which will include a state-of-the-art experimental ocean simulator in an extensive seawater precinct to support innovative research into coral spawning, water quality and climate change.

Based at our Cape Ferguson Research Facility in Townsville, Queensland, the Research Director will play a key role in realising the Institute's science vision and will have significant input in developing a research environment characterised by science excellence, creativity, innovation and flexibility to allow for serendipitous discovery, as well as timely, accountable and focused delivery of benefit to government, industry and society through the application of that research.

The successful candidate will:
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, clients and science partners
• Align AIMS' science vision with the needs of Australia
• Possess tertiary qualifications in Coral Reef Science, Marine Ecology, Oceanography, Ecological Modelling or Microbial Ecology
• Demonstrate a minimum of 10 years experience and academic and/or industry achievement evidenced through academic records, operational management, authorship of publications, resource allocation, planning and reporting

Internationally competitive terms and conditions commensurate with qualifications and experience, including generous superannuation and private use vehicle are available to the successful candidate. This opportunity will be initially offered as a five year fixed term contract.
