Genetics and Genomics of Muscle Postdoctoral Fellows. The Genetics and Genomics of Muscle Training Program will award one (1) postdoctoral position immediately and two (2) postdoctoral positions to begin between May and July 2012. Candidates shall submit their proposals by February 15th. Awards will be announced by March 15th. MD's can defer for a year. This T32 Training Award is made possible by a National Institute Of Arthritis And Musculoskeletal And Skin Diseases (NIAMS) grant to the Research Center for Genetic Medicine, Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC
The Center is associated with the George Washington University Department of Integrative Systems Biology. The award will provide each Scholar with an integrated didactic and mentored research program in genomics/genetic research, principles and techniques, and a research experience that utilizes genetics, genomics, and proteomics tostudy muscle function and disorders. Research and training topics include muscular dystrophy, exercise physiology, muscle regeneration, and pre-clinical and clinical trials.
Technological training in genome-enabled studies of muscle, such as genome-wide SNP association studies (GWAS), mRNA profiling, proteomic profiling, and systems biology is offered. Awardees with PhD or MD degrees can be supported for up to three years.
Trainees must be U.S. citizens or hold a "green card" at the time of appointment. Stipends will follow the NIH stipend levels as delineated at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-11-067.html; Interested individuals should send a current curriculum vitae and a description of research interests to receive program information including eligability criteria, application timelines, requirements and review criteria.
