As seen in the 23 December issue of Science:
UCL
UCL Division of Biosciences
Research Department of Neuroscience,
Physiology and Pharmacology
Reader or Chair in Computational
Physiology
Applications are invited for a Readership or Chair in
Computational Physiology in the Faculty of Life
Sciences. The position will be based in the Research
Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and
Pharmacology (NPP) in the Division of Biosciences.
The successful candidate will be required to establish
and lead a new academic research group in this field.
UCL has recently embarked on an ambitious strategy to
enhance its capabilities in computational life and
medical sciences by establishing the UCL
Computational Life & Medical Sciences Network
(http://www.clms.ucl.ac.uk/).
As part of this new strategy, we intend to make several
appointments. The first of these will be at
Readership/Professor level and will require an individual
with an outstanding track record in Computational
Physiology. This area is critical to many ongoing projects
in research, undergraduate teaching and postgraduate
training at UCL. We have been expanding research
activity in this area inter alia via the co-ordinating role in
EU/FP7 Virtual Physiological Human and CoMPLEX, a
multi-disciplinary PhD Programme part-funded by the
British Heart Foundation.
We expect the successful candidate to develop
interdisciplinary research across Faculties, externally
and with UCL Partners, linking computational and
physiological sciences.
Individuals with expertise in computational aspects of
any branch of systems physiology, including
neurophysiology, a major research strength of the
Department, are encouraged to apply. A strong
publication record in international journals and an ability
to attract funding from research councils and charities is
essential.
The appointment will be full time on the UCL Grade 9 or
Professorial Grade. The salary range will be: Reader -
£50,902 to £55,362 per annum; Professor - negotiable
on the professorial scale but not less than £61,960 per
annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Division of Biosciences (j.carroll@ucl.ac.uk).
Closing Date: 28th January 2012.
We particularly welcome female applicants and those
from an ethnic minority, as they are underrepresented
within University College London at this level.
