The Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) program at James Madison University is seeking applicants for a position in the Biosystems sector, which is part of an innovative science and technology program that teaches a multidisciplinary curriculum. ISAT produces graduates with strong problem-solving skills acquired from a 4-year program that includes courses, projects, and teamwork integrating the life sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences, as well as management skills. All graduates complete an undergraduate research project. Interdisciplinary sectors in the ISAT program are Biosystems, Energy, Environment, Engineering & Manufacturing, Information & Knowledge Management, and Telecommunications. There are cross department degree programs, as well, including Virginia's only bachelor's degree in Biotechnology. Candidates also have the opportunity to participate in the Master of Science in Integrated Science and Technology.

Teaching responsibilities are primarily in the Biosystems sector and include courses at all levels, including general education. Candidates with interest and skills in directing a microscopy facility will be given higher priority. Commitment to mentoring students in research projects is essential. Interdisciplinary teaching in cross-sector areas, such as Biotechnology and
the Environment, Energy in Biological Systems, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing will be encouraged.

Candidates may have a variety of backgrounds with a multidisciplinary focus in some of the following areas: molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, microscopy, bioinformatics, biomanufacturing. A Ph.D. in one of the above areas or a related area is required. Experience outside of academia such as in government or the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, is highly desirable, as are post-doctoral and teaching experience. The candidate must have an interest in teaming with other faculty to teach and develop courses. Evidence of strong interest in conducting undergraduate research is required.
