A postdoctoral position is available immediately at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine, to study the mechanisms by which inflammation induced by ischemia-reperfusion injury or infection inhibits the beta-adrenergic- and cAMP-mediated stimulation of ions and fluid transport across the distal lung epithelium. Applicants should have a PhD, MD or DVM degree. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with the assessment of biological indices of lung injury in rats and mice, cell biology and protein biochemistry. Specifically, he/she should be able to perform western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and be able to use confocal microscopy to assess immunofluorescence (as an example). Excellent communication and organizational skills (both oral and written) as well ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams are required. Applicants should have demonstrated scientific productivity and be able to work independently, but listen to suggestions by the primary supervisor (Dr. Pittet) and other faculty involved in this research. Several years of funding are currently available. Salary will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the UAB guidelines and pay scale. UAB is located in downtown Birmingham.
