Genentech is seeking a Group Director/Senior Group Director to lead clinical development in support of new and ongoing clinical research (Phase I – IV) and post-marketing programs for Lucentis. The candidate will be responsible for leading a large multifunctional team within the Development organization in a matrix environment and provide clinical/scientific leadership on functional teams. He/she will play an important role in interacting with all major functions outside of Development including Research, Manufacturing, and Commercial and global development partners. The Director will have managerial responsibilities for the ophthalmology medical staff and will be expected to have a clinical/scientific leadership role within the company and interact with multiple functions within Development including biostatistics, clinical operations, clinical science, diagnostics, regulatory, and pharmacological sciences.

MD or PhD is required with preference for a background in the visual sciences and three to seven years in industry. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. The candidate must demonstrate ability to evaluate, interpret and present complex scientific data, ability to critically design and evaluate complex drug development programs, and proven managerial/leadership experience.
