This role implements the business strategy for the assigned region and business unit in order to meet revenue, profitability or other goals. As BU liaison, advocates the needs of the business and drives commercial channel optimization for the Region. Provides input into BU strategy.
v Provides region-specific input into business unit strategy based on VOC and/or VOS.
o Analyzes markets and opportunities
o Segments the market based on regional needs and requirements
o Provides input into value proposition and business positioning and branding strategy
o Tracks and analyzes competitive environment
v Implements BU strategy in assigned regions
o Recommends and develops tactical plans and metrics to meet BU objectives aligned with marketing programs, product management, sales, business segment, and cross-BU/IVGN objectives.
v Supports product management across the BU
o Through product management team, provides input to new product development (VOC/VOS; technology opportunities; competitive threats; forecasts; pricing; requirements; positioning; launch planning, etc). Provide product portfolio input as required.
o Through product management team, provides regional demand forecast for key products; provides input into AOP planning process; supports SR1 and SRII activities
v Develops and implements commercial strategy in the region
o Provides input into messaging, positioning, and branding for assigned BU
o Ensures field messaging is consistent with value proposition, brand, product and positioning strategy
o Develops and implements region-specific demand and/or lead generating marketing programs (promotions, SPIFFs, eMarketing) that are aligned with WW as well as regional programs, priorities and objectives. Develops regional discounting guidelines in alignment with BU and product objectives.
o Supports exhibits and events' activities at corporate, BU, or regional level
o Ensures commercial team (AMs, TSS, FAS, etc) are trained and able to effectively deliver product and BU messaging and value propositions. Identifies and develops sales tools to support field objectives. Sets up training programs to close the gaps. Feeds back additional requirements to appropriate stakeholders.
o Develops measures of success for all tactical activities, collects feedback and adjusts plans to meet business targets.
o Working with the commercial team, responsible for delivering the regional revenue/profitability targets for the BU. Actively engaged in managing the sales opportunity funnel.
Nature and Scope:
This position interacts with varying levels of personnel, both internal and external, and requires the ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing. Specifically this role will be required to interact continuously with Life Technologies' marketing team as well as business management. Effectiveness in this role requires a general knowledge of BU operating plans and products as well as industry practices for developing, promoting and selling similar products/services. The incumbent works on problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations requires review of identifiable factors. Decisions are made within policy constraints; proposed solutions are expected to be both creative and practical. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others and conduct presentations of technical information. May provide general guidance or direct supervision to other employees.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or in marketing/business administration or related discipline, or the equivalent education and experience are required. M.B.A. preferred.
Experience:
· Demonstrated ability to work with scientists/customers.
· Experience working in and across a matrix organization of similar size to Invitrogen
· Five to seven years in a similar marketing, marketing analysis or sales
· Broad business acumen developed with 10-15 years experience (inclusive of experience above) that involves general sales or management experience working in global markets
· Strong communication skills as well as analytical, project management and planning skills necessary.
· Business development skills and cross-functional team leadership experience preferred.
· Proven ability to see new business opportunities set and meet aggressive objectives and develop strong working relationships.
· Demonstrated ability to translate marketing strategy into tactical plans and execute against those plans.
· Sales experience preferred.
