Job Description top

We are looking for a scientist to join the Proteomic Core Facility at EMBL Heidelberg. The Proteomic Core Facility provides scientific support for scientists at EMBL-Heidelberg and its outstations, in the areas of proteomics and structural biology. We offer services in the characterization of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry, for which we have a range of mass spectrometers and nano-flow liquid chromatography systems. We also have a strong focus on (1D and 2D) gel-based protein separation. The successful candidate will be in charge of protein identification by mass spectrometry and LC-MS/MS. Upon proven suitability, the candidate may be given additional responsibilities in lab and project management in the future.

The ideal candidate should have a Master or Doctoral degree in analytical chemistry or in one of the life sciences. Experience in mass spectrometry is required, either in an academic or industrial setting. The candidate should have a sound knowledge in protein chemistry, and be computer-literate. Good communication skills and fluency in English are essential; a working-knowledge of German is desirable. To qualify for a senior position, 3-5 years working experience in a similar position is required.

An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.

EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation.
