The Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy of the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena invites applications for
two Full Professorships (W3)
at the Institute of Nutrition. Both are starting October 1st, 2009.
Research at the Institute of Nutrition is focussed on molecular nutrition and is an integrative part of the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Science, and the non-university research institutes in Jena, such as the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, the Leibniz Institute of Natural Product Research and Infection Biology and the Leibniz-Institute for Age Research.
Candidates are expected to contribute to at least one of the following major research topics - Age-associated diseases - Metabolic and regulatory networks.
The Institute of Nutrition aims to identify and characterize bioactive compounds and their properties in biological systems, including humans. The Institute is orientated towards natural science and biomedicine and offers excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research.
W3 Professorship for Nutritional Toxicology The successful candidate will pursue internationally high-ranking research in the field of metabolisms of physiological and toxicological compounds. Development of evidence-based scientific attempts for nutritive prevention or therapy of chronic or age-related diseases is of particular interest. Identification and validation of new biomarkers for phenotype-associated functional characterization of food ingredients that allow risk assessment are also welcome.
W3 Professorship for Nutrigenomics The successful candidate will pursue internationally high-ranking research in the field of regulation of signalling cascades and gene regulation by food ingredients and/or their metabolites using cutting-edge bio-analytical techniques. Integrative approaches at the interfaces between genomics, proteomics and/or metabolomics as well as the integration of epidemiological attempts are welcome.
Formal requirement for appointment is a postdoctoral lecturing qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent achievements in research and education. The initial appointment as Professor will be for six years; exceptions are possible. After successful evaluation, a tenure position will be granted without a new application procedure.
The Friedrich Schiller University is an equal opportunity employer. Female scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference. Applications from foreign scientists are welcome.
Please send your written application (including CV, copies of certificates, list of publications, grants awarded, teaching records, past and future research interests) by January 30th, 2009 to the
