Duties:

The Penn Vector Core facility in the Gene Therapy Program is an important technological resource for University of Pennsylvania and other investigators interested in the science of somatic gene transfer.​ The facility serves as the base of operations for all vector production and services as well as functions as a state-of-the-art bio-safety level 2 facility for use by researchers.​ The Vector Core provides investigators with viral-based vectors including adenoviral vectors, lentiviral vectors and adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors for basic science, gene therapy and vaccine applications.​ The Associate Director of Vector Development will oversee all aspects of molecular biology related to viral vector construction and development.​ The position will include the direct supervision of at least 2 research specialists, communication with Vector Core users as well as interaction with Associate Directors of the Vector Core, Immunology Core, Cell Morphology Core and Animal Models Core and with the Vector Core Director and Head of the Gene Therapy Program.​ An important element of the position will be to act in a scientific liaison capacity with government, corporate and foundation funding agencies to facilitate interactions between investigators, sponsors and the Gene Therapy Program.​

Qualifications:

The applicant must hold a Ph.​D.​ in the area of virology, biochemistry or other biological science with 3-5 years of relevant scientific and management experience in an academic or industrial setting.​ The applicant must have previous experience in the design of viral-based vectors and/​or viral-based vector production and a substantial publication record in peer-reviewed journals.​ Excellent writing and communication skills are required and previous experience submitting grant applications and interacting with funding agencies is preferred.​ This position is contingent upon funding.​
